(Changing your mindset)

In decision theory and general systems theory, a mindset is a set of assumptions, methods or notations held by one or more people or group of people.

A mindset can also be seen as arising out of a persons world view or philosophy of life.

Mindset is the element of a person that enables them to be aware of the world and their experiences.

It is the faculty of consciousness and response; Your mindset impacts how you make sense of the world and how you respond to issues or life's situations. It is a person's way of thinking and reasoning.

Power of the Mindset

  • Your mindset is the most powerful intelligence system in you. It is so powerful that it directly affects everything you do, either positively or negatively, depending on how it is conditioned.
  • Your mindset shapens your belief, opinion, thoughts and actions. Your mindset is your greatest tool. No one goes beyond his/her mindset, as you can only achieve whatever you believe you can.

What is Mindset Shift?
Mindset Shift is basically changing or resetting your mindset.

Your mindset is a tool which you must use effectively; Mindset Shift is the ability to adapt positively to any given situation through your thoughts and responses.

There are two modes in your brain, they are:

1. Autopilot/Default mode - According to Dan Gilbert, every human being is set on default 46.9% of the time, that is, half a day you're on autopilot or default mode. The default mode occurs when your thoughts drift I.e when you go through a day without thinking.

2. Direct mode - This second mode occurs when you're present and controlling what you think about. You have the ability to deliberately choose what you think about.

It is pertinent to note that being a deliberate thinker is a skill which must be mastered and practiced.

Doing a mindset reset is not an event, it is a process because the negative and limiting beliefs that you have are already set to your default.

When you're constantly thinking failure or anything bad happening to you, this becomes your default mode of thinking.

Scientists call it the default mode network; the default mode network is a series of neurons in your brain that have automated certain things. 

If you constantly have thoughts like 'I can't do it', 'I'm a failure', 'I'm weak', 'I'm a loser', then it becomes part of your default mode network.

You must do a mindset shift and change from someone who defaults to thinking negatively to one who chooses to think directly.

It is just like switching writing with your left hand to writing with your right hand or vice versa. If you're left handed, you can only switch to your right hand by deliberately picking up the pen and trying to write with it.

Your handwriting would not be good from the beginning but it is a process and soon enough you'll start to write perfectly after much practice.

Your mindset also operates that way; If your mind has been programmed to default mode of negative thinking then you have to begin the process of shifting or switching your mind to positive and healthy thoughts, that is, into deliberate and direct mode of thinking.

It is a choice to either repeat the thinking patterns, you've always had or evolve them. If you change how you think, then you can change your life.

The first step of getting from that default mode to thinking deliberately is actually seeing it. And you have to ask yourself these questions:

'What is my limiting belief?'
'What would it cost me if I keep thinking in the default mode?'
'What makes me have these limiting beliefs i.e default mode?'

I want you to understand that for the rest of your life, you have a job which is whenever you start thinking in the default mode 'I'm not good enough', 'I can't do it', "I'm not smart enough', You have to do a MINDSET SHIFT.

If you don't get deliberate, you will be stuck with the default mode of thinking. 
The way you can reprogramme your default mode of thinking to positivity is when you:

First, catch the negative default thinking
Secondly, direct it to something deliberate and positive
Note: Your mindset determines the actions you take.
