Benefits of Self-Development as a Millennial

Growing up, I always knew I wanted to be rich, famous and successful. I daydream a lot and in my head, I imagined the life I wanted. It was all so easy, rosy and real, until I stepped into the real world, then i realized that life actually wasn't a bed of roses. There were real hurdles to be crossed and the path to success wasn't as smooth as I had pictured it to be. It dawned on me that I had to put in a lot of work to get the life I wanted. I had to develop myself to prepare for life’s challenges ahead.
According to Henry David Thoreau, ‘You cannot dream yourself into a character; you must hammer and forge yourself one.”

A lot of us millennials are at this stage in our lives, lost confused and uncertain about what the future holds, the pressure from family and friends not making it any easier on us.

I can totally relate. I know you want to have it all, you want to hit it big, the fame, the wealth, comfort and everything good but as our papa no be dangote, hardwork and self-development is quite essential.

You’ve got to continually strive to add value to yourself, there are no two ways about it.
Self development helps help you “transcend your limitations” and “unlock your potential” as a human being. It means becoming the best you can be and reaching towards your potential.

Be ready to invest in your own development, stay eager to enroll in transformative courses and take online courses. Attend live events.
Join platforms to help you grow, read as many books as you can. If you can’t afford to buy books or don’t want to spend the money borrow them from the library, family or friends. You could even join a book club so as to stay motivated. A reader is a leader!

Internships are never overrated! They are the stepping stones to getting to the peak of your career and Myllash is a very good platform to begin with.
Learn From Other People. You can gain from their success and learn from their mistakes. Your own experience is a harsh teacher so learn from the mistakes of others. If you can find a mentor or coach your task will be easier.
More than anything else, be hungry for success.

The journey of self-development is an ongoing process of constant learning. It gives you the opportunity to evaluate your strengths and weaknesses and to work on them. The benefits are that you grow as a person while growing your skills, you improve your self-awareness, and you boost your confidence.

Self-development enables you to have a personal vision of the future, which gives you a clear idea as to what or where you will be in the next few months or years. Knowing your target and destination in life makes it easy to draw up a plan on how you will achieve your goals.

So start now. You can build on what you do today, tomorrow. Don’t become a pro at procrastination! Keep working on yourself, you are a work-in-progress, until you get to that point where you can proudly call yourself a finished product.

Remember that “In this world you’re either growing or you’re dying, so get in motion and grow.” -Lou Holtz
